I’m not a trained chef, but I do love to cook. That is the theory behind Cooking With Marie. Our goal is to make cooking an accessible, easy, and fun activity, even if it is your first time in the kitchen. To achieve this goal:
- We use simple, healthy ingredients. We won’t be roasting a rack of lamb, or whipping up foie gras. And you’ll never hear me refer to truffles (or their oil). My favorite ingredients are fresh herbs, olive oil, vegetables, fish, and lean white meats, so we use at least one of these in most dishes.
- We use regular household equipment. Although I am lucky enough to have a convection oven and gas stove, I don’t own a blow torch, double-boiler, or piping set. As a result, we generally use just a few bowls, a cookie sheet or sauce pan, and often our hands.
- We cook food that people like. To me, there is nothing worse than driving to the grocery store, parking, shopping, driving home, parking, carrying in four bags of groceries, and following an intricate recipe, only to end up with something that nobody wants. So, we make dishes that are worth the effort, parking and all.
- We have fun. Ever hear of a cooking show that begins at the skeet range? Or see two friends cook a meal in their cowboy hats? What about a bilingual show that is explained entirely in English and Spanish? Well, we’ve done them all. And who knows what we’ll decide to do next!
